This study block lays the methodological foundation of managing projects. The methodology is underpinned by systemic methods in guiding the actions of the project manager, focusing on the methods to help deal with the problematic, messy realities in which the project manager works, and in meeting the challenges of undertaking and instigating change projects in highly complex and political organizational contexts. This Study Block explores a number of the core techniques required to support project planning, execution and evaluation, together with the supporting software tools. This Study Block will be dedicated to the analysis of resources, including financial estimation of the project. Also project robustness will be analysed through the use of sensitivity analysis and risk analysis techniques. This Study Block will be dedicated principally to a detailed outline of the Prince2 approach to project management and to a brief comparison of this method with other project management methods such as PMP/PMBOK. This is an integrative Study Block, in which delegates will be able practice the operationalisation of their knowledge, in an integrated manner. Delegates will be applying their new knowledge to a problematic situation in a simulation Project Management process. This Study Block is designed to bring together the various components of study previously undertaken. It is designed to be an integrative component, in which Masters level students will be encouraged to explore the wider intellectual and underpinning debates about the nature of project management methods, principles and academic debates.
